Big data – Travel card data – How to get more value out of data we already have?
Travel card data has the potential to gain a lot of new insight into how our passengers use the public transport system. In this project they have so far been focusing on three key areas: To get a better understanding on how passengers combine different lines and modes; how to optimize passenger flows at large terminals, and how to use these very detailed data to get better predictions of changes in route choice when timetables or network is changed.

Individual info posters at bus stops – automated production based on clever logic, digital timetable and route data + open source code
A story of how HSL developed a clever automation process and necessary software for creating individual bus stop posters for timetables and line maps. This open source project was completed in close cooperation with the journey planner project and as a part of overall map production renewal. Now everything is ready, processes are much more effective and all stops have individual information.

Technology doesn't feel, but our customers do - Why we stopped talking about digitalization and started talking about feelings
"Technology is everything that doesn't work yet" - technology is only perceived as technology until it creates value and function. When the people at Ruter are working with customer services they view digitalization the same way. Digitalization is just something that doesn't work yet, until it delivers value to the customer and the organization. In this talk you’ll learn about Ruter’s approach to understanding customer feelings and behavior along with their quest to define "flow" in public transport services.

An approach to data driven maintenance through real time data streams and machine learning
Today we have many real-time data sources deployed in the field, each with own designed purpose. However, can we use machine learning and big data analysis coupled with these real-time data streams to uncover more information and gain new insights leading to a data-driven and proactive maintenance? Moreover, to whom would this be useful and are there any organizational challenges?
